Cancer
Cancer isn’t a new disease, it’s an ancient one. The war against cancer is the longest war waged in history, and continues 4,000 years after the first case in recorded history.
Cancer is a term that describes many diseases. All of these diseases result in the abnormal growth of cells. These abnormal cells result in a pathology of excess, colonizing in vital organs, the blood and bones, until they can no longer function.
It is a disease that knows no borders, no skin color and strikes all ages. We will all, most likely, encounter this disease through a family member, or even first hand.
Like any other war, the war against cancer will be won by men and women, patients and doctors alike, who exhibit determination, grit, resilience, and moreover, a quest for knowledge of the enemy.
I encourage all of you to learn about this enemy by reading “The Emperor of all Maladies” by Siddhartha Mukherjee, "a cancer physician who is as skillful with his pen as he is with his scalpel. His academic pedigree is only surpassed by is personal passion."
